Feed Your Head

There's something both unsettling and utterly captivating about this piece. When I first encountered it, I felt transported into a fever dream where childhood innocence collides with psychedelic wisdom. The sculpture stands as a physical manifestation of transformation—two heads stacked vertically, each telling its own story while creating something entirely new together.

The lower figure draws you in with those piercing blue eyes, wide and doll-like, set in a face that bears the beautiful scars of time and experience. Painted in weathered blues and flesh tones with splashes of crimson at the cheeks and nose, this face holds an expression of wonder tinged with melancholia. The upper head, serene and mask-like, bears the titular inscription "feed your head" across its forehead—a direct homage to Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit" and the Alice in Wonderland imagery that inspired this creation.

What strikes me most is the mixed media approach: fabric wraps around the heads like a protective hood, patterned textiles form a makeshift torso, and the limbs extend in different directions as if frozen mid-dance. The color palette moves from mossy greens to deep burgundy reds, with touches of turquoise and golden yellows creating unexpected harmony. Those little burgundy bows perched atop the upper head add a touch of whimsy to an otherwise contemplative piece.

This sculpture asks us to consider what it means to nourish our minds, to seek enlightenment even when the path seems strange or uncomfortable. Standing before it, you might feel disquieted, curious, or strangely comforted—perhaps all three at once. That's exactly where the magic lives.
